Te Whānau Māori o Roslyn School

Te Ohu Mātua was initially established in 2016 to support our Māori whānau and those families interested in supporting our cultural aspirations for the kura.  It was a great way for us to connect with our whānau and to learn what they wanted for their tamariki.  It also provided a space for our whānau to get to know one another, setting up a strong network of parents & caregivers both new to our kura and who have been here for some time.  It provided a platform for our Māori whānau to have a voice and to share their needs and aspirations for their tamariki & mokopuna for the future.  More importantly, it was about supporting the school and our tamariki to be successful and to be proud of who they are.

Now, our focus remains the same, but we are also looking for ways to support the accountability of our school Board.  Our School Board is accountable for the performance of the school, focusing on raising student achievement for all students. This includes making decisions that support Māori ākonga to enjoy and achieve education success as Māori.

Our goal is to continue to support the bicultural focus of our kura. We actively want to have representation of whānau Māori on the Board, which will provide consultation on decision-making with the overall view of ensuring Māori student progress and success, and will lead and support our whānau Māori through hui and representation on the Board.

Te Ohu Mātua - Te Whānau Māori o Roslyn is open to all whānau of Māori ākonga within our school community. Members within the group are at different levels of te reo and tikanga, and we extend an open invitation to all school families willing to learn and be involved.
