Specialist Teaching and Support
At Roslyn we have a number of systems and programmes in place to both support and extend our students in a whole range of areas. We have a team of skilled volunteers supported by a specialist Special Needs Teacher.
The programmes we offer include:
English for Speakers of Other Languages
All students who don't speak English as their primary language are tested and then given support in learning English.
Hatchlings
The Hatchlings programme is designed for new entrant children to build knowledge of the alphabet with letter recognition and letter sounds. Skills crucial for learning to read.
We also run the Hatchlings Preschool Programme for preschoolers to build their alphabet knowledge before they start school. This programme is open to preschoolers of all ages and is also a great way to introduce them to school.
Reading Recovery
Is a reading programme for six year olds who are reading below the expected level. We have a trained Reading Recovery teacher who works with the students on the programme each day. We also have another teacher in training who also works with students as part of on-going training.
Rainbow Reading
This is one of our literacy programmes aimed at targetting identified students in Years 1-4 who are reading below their chronological age. The programme works on fluency, comprehension and reading strategies. This programme is run by one of our teacher aides.
Gifted and Talented
We run a variety of programmes for our identified Gifted and Talented students. These are all targeted to the individual students strengths and interests.
